Simple Present

1- Usage:

We use the simple present to talk about things that continually happen, things that happen every day, week or month and that often happens. We use it with factual things.

2-The formation of the sentence in the simple present:

 subject+ basic form of the verb ( verb 1)

e.g.: _I like music.

       _They never go to school.

Note: we add an (-s or -es) to the verb if we use the third person singular(he, she, it) and any other proper nouns

e.g.: _He goes to the cinema every Thursday.

       _Sara likes reading a short stories.

       _ The sun rises from the East and sets in the west

Note: we use don’t or doesn’t to make negative:

 _I don’t like swimming.

_She doesn’t eat matt. 

3-Keywords of present simple:

every+period (every day, every week,...etc.), often,

usually, always, sometimes, seldom, frequently, never.

4-Examples:

-I wake up early in the morning ( just kidding, I wake up at 11 p.m or 12🌚)

-Water boils at 100° degrees.

 

Present Progressive:

1-Usage:

We use it to talk about actions that happen right now, actions which are hours placed at the moment of speaking or writing. It is also used in conversation and used to refer to the future.

2- The formation of the sentence in present progressive:

Subject+ is/am/are+  verb+ ing

e.g.: I am writing right now.

       She is studying at the moment

        We are leaving tomorrow.

Note: we use (am) with (I), and (is) with (he, she, it, singular subject), and (are) is used with (they, we, plural subject)

3- Keywords of present progressive:

 at the moment, right now, now, this week or day or year,

a word like (look! listen!)

4- Spelling rules of the formation of the progressive tenses verbs:

Some verbs change when they get attached to (-ing).

-verbs ending with ie, ( die>> dying), (lie>>lying)

-verbs ending with silent e, ( move>>moving), (broke>>broking), if the verb does not end with silent e, we do not drop it (be>>being), (see>>seeing).

-verbs ending with y, ( fly>>flying), ( buy>>buying).

-verbs with one syllable ending with a consonant preceded with a short vowel,  we duplicate the last consonant: (nod>>nodding),(run>>running)

 

Present Perfect:

1-Usage:

Present perfect is used for actions that are completed, or perfected, at the time of writing or speaking, and with action which is never been done before or a unique experiment. It is used to talk about the duration of action.

2-The formation of the present perfect:

Subject+ has/have+ verb 3( past participle)

e.g.: I have just finished my work.

       He has never visited Italy before.

       We have studied English literature for 4 years.

3- Keywords of the present perfect:

Since, for, yet, just, before, recently, lately, already, so far, many times

4- Examples:

-She finished her study in 2018.

- They have not tried this salad yet.

- He has been on a diet recently.

 

Present Perfect Progressive:

1-Usage

It is used to talk about an action that started in the past and still going on or has recently stopped. It is used to emphasize the length of time.

2- The formation of the sentence in the present perfect progressive:

Subject+ has/have+ been +the present participle of the verb( verb-ing)

3- Examples:

-I have been sleeping for days recently

-He has been watching the series that I suggest.

- She has been eating a lot lately.
